Dreadlocks

style dreadlocks

As you now know, to style dreadlocks, you have a variation of options. Dreadlocks can be a very low maintenance style.  They don’t need to be washed every day or every other day.  You don’t need to comb your hair before you go out of the house in the morning.  Bed head is no longer a consideration that you need to think about.  However, a big head of Rastafarian dreads isn’t always the best style, especially if you are working in professions ranging from nursing to teaching to business.  This doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy your dreadlocks, it just means that you have to take care in the way that you style them.  Remember, that your hairstyle should be a reflection of you.  Don’t let what is on your head dwarf your entire personality.  That is why we have complied some tips on styling dreadlocks that might be able to help you find some classic looks for your dreadlocks that will look good at both work and play.

First of all, you need to consider the pattern you create when you roll you dreadlocks in the first place.  If you avoid a discernable part you can easily pull your dreadlocks back into a ponytail or large bun in a work setting.  You’ll get a bit of the sixties bouffant style, but it will look well kept and stay out of your face.  If you have a noticeable center part, then you might want to think about pigtails or a variation on that theme.  Pulling your hair back into two separate sections and then twisting them together is anything but schoolgirlsih – with enough twisting this dreadlock hairstyle can even be red carpet worth.  There are also many updos that women can do with dreadlocks.  Because they are so pliable, you can do a variation of the messy bun that has been so popular recently.  Let the texture of your hair speak for itself.  With minimal effort you can find a hairstyle that is guaranteed to be a showstopper.

Men who wear dreadlocks should think about keeping them short and funky or pulling them back into a ponytail in a work environment.  Either keep your dreads between one and four inches long and let them be like the spiky hairstyles worn by non-dreaded men or wear than at least to your shoulders so that you can pull them back when necessary.  These tips on styling dreadlocks should let you sport your favorite style without doing anything to harm your career.
