African American Wedding Hair

More than any other day of your life, your wedding should be about you.  This is the only day that you get to plan and star in your own show.  That is why you should look your best, but you should still look like you.  Don’t let the people who put out wedding industry magazines tell you that the only way you’ll look beautiful is if you emulate styles that are traditionally found on Caucasian brides.  Instead, you should embrace the overall style you have made with your hair and just make a little bit more special.  Regardless of how your hair is styled, it is very easy to get African American wedding hair.

Your hair is just one part of the overall day.  It should compliment your face shape and your dress.  In order to find your perfect wedding style, start a few weeks before the wedding and experiment with some styles.  You might even want to coordinate with your bridesmaids.  For instance, you might all have micro braids and then get them styled in different ways.  Or you all might opt for a natural look.  What you are really looking for a look that is both elegant and durable.  As long as you feel good with it and it is the perfect look for your wedding.

A very popular style these days is straightening your hair with heat, pulling it into a tight ponytail and then creating a bun with curls.  This gives you an elegant crown of hair.  It can sometimes be a challenge to fit a veil into this type of style, but if you’re set on it, you might even want to clip the veil beneath it.  Another popular wedding style is a relaxed and natural look.  You should relax your hair with just a little heat so that it is hanging in large curls and waves.  Then you sweep it away from your face and let the rest of it hang naturally.

If you have braids or dreadlocks, you can sweep all of these up into a large bun or French twist.  If you haven’t experimented with your dreads, you should take the time to do so.  As long as they are at least shoulder length there are a lot of things that you can do with them.  You would be surprised at the amount of African American wedding hair styles that are out there for you to choose from.
