The faux hawk hairstyle also known as the “fohawk” copies the style of a mohawk, but with tapered or razor cut shaped sides and without shaving the sides bald. This version is typically worn with a small but noticeable spike in the middle, and usually shorter than many traditional historic mohawks.
There are many derivatives of the mohawk that are sometimes referred to as a faux hawk, such as:
- Euro-hawk – sides are generally cut longer
- Frohawk – specifically with natural afro, kinky, curly, coily textured hair
- Dreadhawk – specifically created with locked hair or dreadlocks
- Fanhawk – shaped like a fan
