A wash and go hairstyle for natural hair, also abbreviated as WnG or W&G, is a method of co-washing or wetting the hair, adding a styling gel or cream while the hair air drys as you go about for the day. The hair can be dried with a diffuser.

The hairstyle results are curly or wavy tresses that are fluffed freely in a natural shaped depending on the texture and legthn of your hair.

Some common products and/or gels used to create a wash and go are:

  • Eco Styler Olive Oil Styling Gel (other Eco Styler Gels ie. Argan oil depending on your preference)
  • Kinky Curly Curling Custard
  • Miss Jessie’s Curly Pudding
  • IC Fantasia Olive Styling Gel

Note if you have curly to tightly coiled hair, you will experience shrinkage to your hair length as your hair fully dries.

  • my W&G routine is co-wash with garnier fructis (sleek and shine) then garnier fructis (sleek and shine) leave in cream conditioner, my styling gel is proclaim curl activator, and a little eco olive oil syling gel to lay my edges down and I’m out the door.

  • My hair grows long (mid-back) and very thick. I have typically relaxed and coloured it however I am tired of seeing all the broken strands on the bathroom floor everytime I comb my hair. I have had chronic kidney disease since 2004 and to manage the disease I had to severely restrict my protein intake…..I think it’s a miracle I even have any hair left. I stopped colouring my hair a few years ago and now have a wide “silver” streak right at the front which people usually think is dyed.

I have been on dialysis for about a month and I’m scheduled to receive a kidney transplant June 14th 2012 (God IS good). After the transplant I will be on at least 20 meds a day which I anticipate will have a huge negative impact on my hair. Clearly the best thing to do to protect my hair is to go natural all the way. I cut my hair to a shoulder grazing length and I am now doing a wash and go curly natural style………absolutely loving it! The freedom from the grind of damaging chemicals and applied heat is liberating. People tell me I look so healthy! Natural curls have their own vibrancy and authenticity……I smile every time I see myself in a mirror 🙂
I plan on keeping my hair clipped to shoulder length while I grow the relaxer out. Going natural has lifted my spirits and brought back a little radiancy despite my circumstances. God knows best and if this is how He has made my hair I will rock my wild style with grace.

  • I’ve been natural for a little over 3years now, my hair is on my back now, thnx to my carib and arawak ancestors (im frm the caribbean) but for my WnG (and believe me hair products r very limited for natural curly hair down here) nonetheless I use organics- the shampoo, conditioner (i use napkins to dry my hair n not a towel therefore my curles r not messed with) i apply the organics leave in conditioner, the hair dries on its own leaving it bouncy n oh so sexy!

  • I’m going to try this. I have tried kinky twist two different times with different kinds of hair, I took my hair down after two weeks both times. My hair got frizzy and the hair slipped off my hair some. I really just need a natural style for the summer.
