Jill Scott’s TWA hairstyle on the cover of Essence Magazine

The beautiful and talented actress/singer Jill Scott graces the October 2012 cover of Essence Magazine with a short TWA hairstyle. For those who do not know, a TWA is an acronym for the phrase Teeny Weeny Afro which is as it describes, just a very short Afro. The “So Blessed” poetic songstress looks great with just about any hairstyle she chooses with her “Golden” brown skin tone and big beautiful smile. Although Jill Scott is not new to showing off her natural beauty, she does not have a problem with rocking her hair in other style choices, as she expressed in the magazine:

“This is the simplest form of myself. I look in the mirror and it’s like, ‘Hey, there you go. What’s up, girl?’ For me, hair is an accoutrement. Hair is jewelry. It’s an accessory. Tomorrow I may want a wig down to my butt and I’m gonna rock it, and the next day I may want a big Afro and I’m gonna rock that too…”

I guess media outlets like Essence Magazine are trying to bring more light to the beauty of natural hair in the black community, and that is a good thing. More celebrities like Viola Davis realize that natural hair can be just as glamorous as straight hair. Like Jill Scott said, hair is an accessory to add to your natural beauty, and we all have a choice to express creativity and style through our hair.
