Black Kids Hairstyles

There are many kinds of black kids hairstyles that you need to learn as an African American parent.  Unfortunately black hair is not the same as European or Scandinavian hair, and as such it requires much different techniques and methods.  You obviously know this, having grown up with that kind of hair.  The good news is that the field of hairstyling continues to grow, and as such there are now more ways to get the look you want.

One of the things that stylists use to help you take control of your hair is chemical treatments.  Of course, you can’t use those on children because they are designed for adults.  Even when used on adults they can be dangerous.  Chemical treatments can irritate the skin and even burn your hair.  They can also cause adverse reactions that are not always easy to anticipate.  In an adult these things can often be controlled and remedied fairly quickly.  Unfortunately for children that is not the case.

However, you must find a way to prevent your child’s hair from tangling or bunching up if you want to be able to style it.  Since you cannot use the powerfully effective, yet dangerous chemicals, you will have to find products that are designed to be safe for children.  Thankfully they are not ridiculously difficult to find.
You should also be thankful that children do not typically require ornate hairstyles.  Indeed, a child’s hair should be presentable, clean, neat, and manageable.  If they look adorable, that’s just a bonus.  For short hair, you can opt for the bob style or perhaps a conservative Mohawk, or what is now called the Faux Hawk.  For long hair, you might look at dreadlocks or cornrows.  Depending on the amount of time and money you want to invest, any one of these would be perfectly appropriate.

Whatever it is that you choose you also need to remember that children are very mischievous and active.  They love to play all day long, but they are also curious and will get themselves into a pickle every now and again.  This is important because it should remind you that their hair style should, generally, be practical so that they don’t have to worry about it getting in the way.  Also, you won’t have to worry about them messing up your beautiful design that took you hours to do.  Avoid the hassle and style their hair in a way that makes sense for their lifestyle.
