Did you know I had some members in my community tell me they had been swindled into buying moroccan oil knock off brand and not even knowing it.
Yup, just like anything else popular you are always going to have someone who wants to dilute your brand to make a quick buck. So, I thought I would drop a public service announcement to try and hold down this companies integrity and make my members aware of the situation.
It got bad enough that the actual company left a message in a forum. (NOT ours of course) ;0)
Here is what they said…
Dear readers,
The luxury brand, MOROCCANOIL®, is the originator and leading manufacturer of professional Argan Oil hair products and the fastest growing independent company in the professional salon industry. A powerful antioxidant and UV protector, MOROCCANOIL’s proprietary Argan oil blend is rich in vitamins and natural elements that fortify the hair, including Vitamin F (Omega 6), Vitamin A to improve elasticity, Vitamin E to protect against free-radicals, and Phenols to shield against environmental stressors.
Salon-exclusive MOROCCANOIL® products have a strong following among leading runway, film, television and celebrity stylists who search for the very finest for their A-list clients. MOROCCANOIL® is a backstage fixture frequently used to create hair for major magazine covers, fashion editorial spreads, as well as for award shows including the Oscars, Golden Globes, Grammys, Independent Spirit Awards and MTV Awards.
We highly recommend you purchase your MOROCCANOIL® products from a professional salon in your area. This will guarantee that the product you are buying is an original Moroccanoil® product and the professionals in the salon can instruct you on the best way to use our remarkable brand as well as allow you to return the product if you are not satisfied with it. When you buy online from unauthorized dealers like Ebay, Amazon or Beauty Bay, you will be in fact buying a counterfeited and/or diverted product that is not protected by our warranty.
MOROCCANOIL® is working very hard at making its line of products available to its customers all around the world, and we encourage you to regularly visit our website for news on new territories where you will be able to buy our products from authorized salons.
Sincerely,
MOROCCANOIL®
Hmm, what is meant by knockoff in this context? It’s not really clear from the forum post what the offence involved.
Was it that the box and bottle looked like the brand or is it just another argan company?
Diversion is a big deal in the salon industry and a knockoff just ends up annoying consumers, stylists and manufacturers.
But if it’s just a matter of another argan oil product coming onto the market (like BeBeverlyHills), then that’s a different story.
