There have been many studies recently regarding the correlation of black cohosh and hair growth. These studies are based on the findings that black cohosh, the plant, may have estrogen supporting properties, which is why naturopaths recommend treatment using this plant to help alleviate menopausal symptoms.
It is also believed that black cohosh can stimulate hair growth. This seems to be due to the relationship between estrogen and hair growth. Consequently, then, black cohosh has been occasionally recommended for hair-related issues as well as concerns, symptoms or complications related to menopause. Studies are inconclusive, however, as to exactly how consistently and effectively it can work. Nonetheless, since it is herbal and therefore relatively safe, many doctors feel it is something that is worth trying if you want to.
Black cohosh is also known as Actea Racemosa and Cimicifuga Racemosa. It is a perennial plant that grows natively in North America. It has black thick black roots, which are probably at least partly responsible for the plant’s shady name. The underground stem is the part of the plant that is used in herbal remedies, which include tinctures, tablets, and capsules. Of course, as an herbal supplement it may also be combined with other natural compounds for added and combined benefits.
As with anything that you can ingest into your body, many doctors are concerned that there may be side effects. Of course, you must always be on the lookout for possible drug interactions if you are currently taking any prescription medication. If you have a history of heart disease or problems with your liver, you may also want to consult a physician, pharmacist, nutritionist, or herbalist.
Because of its relationship to estrogen production, black cohosh has been shown to be effective in helping to induce labor. While this is not necessarily a regular practice in maternity wards, it is certainly something to be aware of. Obviously, then, you may not want to take this supplement if you are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant.
Obviously, as an herbal supplement, this product does have some benefits. Because it is natural, you can usually assume that it is safe, but you can’t always know how your body will react to something new. Sometimes you have an allergy, sometimes it just takes a few days to adjust. Speak with your doctor, of course, if you are thinking about trying an herbal supplement product such as this.
